We have just returned from a fabulous adventure in Northern Finland. The forest floor - or Taiga - is thick with bilberries, cloud berries and juniper. Here are some images to give an impression of what it was like.

The forest in Martinselkonen is damp but fragrant. It smells of cedarwood. Carefully crafted runner boards provide a safe, dry path across the swamps.

Bilberries grow wild in the forest. Next month hundreds of migrant workers from the far east arrive to pick them.
Cloudberries feature in jams, compotes and sauces for elk and fish. They are red when they are unripe and then change to amber when ready to eat.
Juniper with its fragrant gin scented berries grows here too.
