What people say about my courses

Participating in Joan’s workshop significantly boosted my confidence. I gained valuable insights into the technical aspects of a camera, as well as learning a lot about food styling, lighting, and understanding the best camera angles. Joan tailored the course to my individual needs, taking the time to understand where I wanted to improve, which made the learning experience even more effective and personalised.

The course was really useful and well-structured. Everything was explained clearly, and whenever I had questions, Joan took the time to break things down in a way that was easy to understand.

I had no experience with photo styling. By the end of the day, I felt much more confident in understanding the best techniques to style photos effectively. It’s a skill I wouldn’t have learned without participating in the course. Being in Joan’s home made the experience much more relaxing. I really enjoyed the calm and inviting atmosphere.

Kiera Jackson October 2024

I recently attended a one-day workshop with Joan who I chose because her work is so beautiful and creative. It was an incredible experience!

As a portrait photographer, food photography was entirely new to me, but Joan made the transition seamless and enjoyable. Her expertise in food photography is evident, and she generously shared a wealth of tips and tricks that have completely transformed how I approach this genre.

What truly stood out was how personalised the workshop was. Joan took the time to understand my background in photography and tailored the session to my specific needs and interests. The hands-on approach allowed me to practice and perfect techniques that I can now confidently apply to my own work.

And as a delightful bonus, not only did we get to photograph the beautifully styled food, but we also had the pleasure of eating it! The combination of learning and enjoying delicious food made the day even more memorable. I highly recommend Joan’s workshop to anyone looking to expand their photography skills—whether you’re a seasoned photographer or just starting out, you'll walk away with invaluable knowledge and inspiration. Thank you '

It has been a week since attending the rather wonderful one-to-one Food Photography workshop with Joan Ransley. What a fabulous day. Joan welcome me into her lovely home and prepared a wide range of delicious food, aesthetic props and back drops for me to photograph. Joan shared so much of her knowledge, experience and tips with me. I learned lots and had a great day. I can’t recommend this workshop highly enough.

The day was a perfect blend of learning technical aspects of how to use a camera, combined with learning how to be more experimental with light, camera angles, tripod set-up and styling. I took away lots of little tips that I know I can implement immediately without having to worry that I can’t manage by myself! Thank you so much for an incredible day yesterday – I truly loved it! I appreciate all the thought and effort you made to create the perfect learning opportunity.

Sarah Kekus, ‘The Health Architect’ March 2024

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the course, the content and the way of teaching was perfect. Really informative and helpful day. Lots of tricks and tips. The course has helped develop my confidence. I enjoyed the mix of theory and practice, learning more about editing photos. Thank you so much.

This course met my training needs really well. I used to “point and shoot” with my phone camera, but now I feel confident using the camera settings to produce beautiful photographs. Thank you so much I never would believe I could take such high-quality photos with my phone!

The course has helped me become much more confident in using my DSLR camera. I understand how a camera works now and what settings to change to achieve different type of photographs.

Chocolate Academy, Ambassador event May 2022

Dear Joan, I just wanted to thank you for an amazing workshop. It’s hard to put into words how much I enjoyed it! It was really inspiring to watch you shoot food. The workshop was the perfect balance of getting our sleeves rolled up and also getting some guidance. It was really good to spend some time learning and having lots of fun with teachers who are passionate about what they do. It was meticulously organised and you organised the perfect people to host us. I do hope we keep in touch!
